The Bicol Landslide Study Launched

Following several cyclone events that triggered landslides in the Bicol area in 2020, ADRA, together with Humanity and Inclusion (HI), Plan International, ACTED, and the Philippine Red Cross Forecast-based-Financing (FbF) Team, was able to access a grant from the START Network to conduct a landslide study in the 9 different municipalities in the provinces of Albay and Sorsogon.

An inception meeting between the partner organizations, local government officials, and scientists was held on March 16 (Sorsogon City) and March 18 (Legazpi), and all partners were eager to begin the 7-month project that will help minimize the loss of life and livelihood due to landslides.

As an organization that has been actively involved in the relief operations following recent typhoons in Bicol, ADRA is happy to be a part of this Disaster Risk Reduction project. It is our hope that through this study, the provinces of Sorsogon and Legazpi will be able to update their landslide early warning forecasts and reduce the negative impact these yearly disasters bring to their areas.
