Today, we have the story of Dominga. She is a community partner and a struggling mother who shared her story with us.
“The storm really affected us… My husband is a day laborer. We try really hard to provide for our six children but with him not being able to having regular work. We are really struggling. I cry with worry for my children.
To the donors, to UNFPA, to ADRA, thank you so much for the cash assistance that you gave. I am just one of the many that you have helped in our time of need.“
This reflects how financial support can restore not just livelihoods, but also hope.
From June 23–27, 2025, through a humanitarian initiative funded by UNFPA, and implemented by ADRA, cash assistance was distributed to women and girls across 11 municipalities in Catanduanes under the Cash for Health, Cash for Dignity, and Cash for Adolescents programs. Beneficiaries—including pregnant women, women of reproductive age, and adolescent girls—were selected based on specific vulnerability criteria, with all recipients endorsed by the Rural Health Unit (RHU), Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), and the Philippine National Police – Women and Children Protection Desk (PNP-WCPD). The support aimed to help them meet essential needs such as maternal care, hygiene supplies, and menstrual health items.
This initiative was made possible through the support of Local Government Units—particularly the Mayor’s Offices, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Offices (MSWDO), Rural Health Units (RHU), Human Resources for Health (HRH), VAWC Desk Officers, Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), the Philippine National Police (PNP), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMO), and other community offices. Special acknowledgment is given to ARDCI, the designated financial partner, for ensuring the secure and efficient delivery of assistance.
Empowering women through cash assistance enables informed choices, safer pregnancies, and more stable households, key steps toward building resilient communities. It upholds dignity, reduces vulnerability, and supports long-term recovery.
UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency working to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.
When disaster strikes, UNFPA ensures lifesaving sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services remain available and accessible.
