Mt. Kanlaon Eruption Response

ADRA extends compassionate support, delivering cash assistance to 450 households affected by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

This was done through united efforts with Central Philippine Union Conference (CPUC), Negros Occidental Conference (NOC), Adventist Community Services (ACS), and the Local Governments of La Castellana and La Carlota of Canlaon City.

Mount Kanlaon, located on Negros Island in the central Philippines, has experienced significant volcanic activity since mid-2024. An explosive eruption on June 3, 2024, produced an ash plume rising approximately 5,000 meters above the summit, leading to evacuations in nearby communities and the suspension of flights due to ashfall.

According to DOST-Philvolcs, eruptions occurred in December 2024, with a notable event on December 9, when the volcano emitted a towering ash column and pyroclastic flows. This activity prompted the evacuation of approximately 87,000 residents from surrounding villages, the establishment of evacuation centers, and the suspension of local schools and businesses.

To all the families affected, together, with faith, unity, and support from one another, we will overcome this trial and rebuild brighter days ahead.
