Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Hosts Fundamentals of Cooperatives Seminar in Pangantucan

On April 15-16, 2025, RISE VisMin partner cooperatives in Pangantucan participated in the Fundamentals of Cooperatives Seminar held at the Bencals Residence in Pangantucan, Bukidnon. This two-day seminar, conducted by representatives from the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), was designed to fulfill mandatory requirements for cooperative registration.

CDA representatives, including Mr. Samsoddin M. Radia, Mr. Nizar P. Pangalian, and Mr. Rashdi Khalil A. Abdul, presented essential information about the significance of cooperatives, highlighting their role as vital contributors to sustainable economic growth, stability, and quality employment opportunities within communities.

The seminar covered various topics related to cooperative governance, focusing on the foundational aspects necessary for forming a cooperative. Emphasis was placed on the nature of cooperatives as independent, registered associations of individuals who voluntarily come together to address their social, economic, and cultural needs by contributing capital equitably.

Participants also discussed challenges cooperatives face, such as issues with achieving quorum during assemblies, delinquency in meeting requirements, and breakdowns in policy enforcement. Addressing these potential challenges in advance is crucial for effective cooperative governance. While the seminar primarily targeted cooperative officers, it benefited all members, who expressed appreciation for gaining a deeper understanding of cooperative operations and their leadership.

Understanding good governance is vital for the successful trajectory of cooperatives. By grasping the core principles of cooperatives and their governance structures, these organizations can effectively work towards achieving their goals, which, in turn, fosters sustainable community growth.
