Just as the number of COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region is on the rise, another tragedy hit this historic town of Kawit, less than 25km away.
Right after midnight on March 19, 2021, an alarm was raised in Brgy. Samala-Marquez, because a fire had turned destructive. Around 20 fire trucks with firefighters responded to this alarm, but the homes made of light materials and the strong winds coming from Manila Bay made it difficult to put out the fire. Finally, at around 4:30 AM, the fire was declared to be out, but it destroyed around 80% of the homes in the area.
According to the initial assessments conducted by our ACS partners, 1,709 individuals from 511 families were affected of which 450 of them had their homes totally damaged by the fire.
Humanitarian Situation According to initial reports, one school was totally damaged during the fire.
On March 26 ADRA, in partnership with Adventist Community Services of Cavite Adventist Mission, responded with cash assistance for the families that lost their homes in the fire. Thank you for always supporting ADRA. It is through your support and donations that we are able to continue to respond to different disasters around the Philippines. May God bless you all and please keep the residents of Brgy. Samala-Marquez in your prayers!
