ADRA receives Gawad Kalasag Award

Gawad KALASAG (KALamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan) was conceived to protect or shield high-risk communities against hazards by encouraging participation of various stakeholders in designing and implementing Disaster Risk Management (DRM) programs.

Efforts on good implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction Program of local government units and private sectors in Region VI were recognized during the Gawad Kalasag Regional Awarding Ceremony on December 2.

Usec. Alexander P. Pama, Administrator, Office of the Civil Defense and Executive Director, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council was invited as the guest speaker of the ceremony. He said that the awards are symbol of excellence and the objective is to put it in action.

“I am confident that we are equally prepared and up for the challenge when another super typhoon will hit us” he added.

DRR Specialist Levi Gutierrez received the trophy on behalf of ADRA.

This is the second time that ADRA has received the Gawad Kalasag award. The first time was for the agency’s emergency response and recovery work for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy (international name: Ketsana) in 2009.
