A Shelter After the Storm

Do you remember Typhoon Odette that ravaged its way through central and southern Philippines last December?

ADRA was blessed to receive funding from the Japan Platform to implement a 4-month shelter assistance project for 200 families that lost their homes and loved ones in Sipalay City and Ilog, Negros Occidental.

Since March, our ADRA Staff have been busy identifying, selecting, and orienting these 200 families on the construction plans. And finally, they have begun distributing the materials so that the eager families could begin rebuilding their homes.

We would like to thank the local government units of Sipalay City and Ilog for providing the vehicles needed to transport these raw materials to the construction sites. We would also like to thank our Adventist Community Services volunteers that helped us monitor and the whole distribution process.

Constructing 200 houses is not easy. But with the enthusiasm and bayanihan spirit of the people in the community, we are happy to share that some of these homes are already up and ready to be inhabited!

The ADRA and the SSD Adventist Health Ministries Department is also happy to share that the Stronger Together: Race for YOUmanity 2022, our annual month-long virtual team race was off to a flying start this month. And with 1 week left to go, we are happy to share that 2 teams have already completed and exceeded the 3517km team challenge and 26 participants already achieved the 500km solo challenge. We look forward to seeing this number increase as we get closer to the end of the race next week.

Thank you for always supporting ADRA through your donations and prayers. We hope that through this short but regular weekly updates, we are making you a part of this ministry of “serving humanity so all may live as God intended.”
